Commodores Corner

Mea culpa – I erroneously suggested last week that guests of RHADC members looking for somewhere to park whilst out with members in their boats should use the parking at Red Hole.  Quite rightly, the Paget Parish Council immediately took me to task and pointed out that that is private parking for residents of Paget accessing the water or foreshore only.  Hence, only members’ guests who reside in Paget may use that for parking when out on the water.  I apologize for upsetting the august members of the Paget Parish Council.

Another member also pointed out that my message last week about parking did not, in fact, specify all day parking, but referred generically to guests of members.  Again, I apologize for causing confusion; as has always been the case, guests who are invited to the Club to dine with members are welcome to park on the RHADC property, in the lower car park or on the tennis court.

Whilst on the subject of apologies, I would like to apologize in advance to those members who are going to be upset by what I am about to write.  The snooker room has been under-utilized for many, many years and in recent years has become a repository for spare bar supplies, surplus furniture and other detritus.  In terms of our Club, it is ‘prime real estate’, to quote one member of the Committee of Management, and hence we have made the decision that we can no longer allocate prime real estate to the very few RHADC members who play snooker.   We have been very fortunate to secure some virtually new lounge furniture from Hiscox, for which we are very grateful, and as soon as the snooker table is removed, that room will be transformed into a ‘teen lounge’.  We KNOW that access via the Members’ Bar isn’t ideal, so creating an access directly onto the South Lawn is going to be phase 2, when funds allow.  We had found we were losing members whose families had outgrown the bouncy castle and we want to keep those families involved with the club – not every teenaged child wants to sit at the table with their parents for the entire Friday evening!  It was very difficult to find a home for an 80-year old snooker table, but luckily the Bermuda Snooker Association has taken on that obligation at no cost to RHADC.
