COMMODORE’S CORNER

Ted saw some longtails from the ferry this week on his way to work and we can all see the loquat trees laden with soon-to-be-ripe loquats, so perhaps spring is here? On our ‘Corona-coaster’ it’s nice to feel as if we are on the ‘up’ side! Let’s hope we get a lovely spring day for the RS21 Taster on 20th March. You will have seen the write up in last week’s newsletter – what a great day that promises to be! I can’t wait. It has been a long time since 6 new boats arrived in Bermuda and so it’s natural that there is plenty of excitement generated.  There are regattas planned and the folks from Sail GP will be using them for an event too – the Sailing Committee will update you all and we hope you will come to the Club to take a look and go for a sail on 20th March.

The Coral Beach Club has relaxed its restrictions on folks arriving from overseas who are fully vaccinated. They no longer have to self-isolate for 8 days, so we hope that we will be able to follow suit before too long and allow our members who have had both shots to come to the Club even if they have travelled or had family members return or business meetings with travellers. The evidence from both Israel and the UK seems to be pretty convincing that the vaccinations play a major role in preventing transmission as well stopping people from getting sick, so that is the best news we can hope for. Perhaps there is sunshine ahead and that some of these restrictions on our daily lives will start to be eased and we can look forward to a return to something like normalcy?

The Club was HOPPING on Friday evening! Wow. How fortunate are we that our members are so supportive? One member told me that she ordered the Wagyu burger and that in her 60 years of eating burgers (but who’s counting?) it was by far and away the best burger she has ever had – ever! It melted in the mouth and it was cooked just right and served just right – no competing flavours, no cheese or onion distractions… just an amazing dish. Thank you, Chef Luca! How fortunate we are to have him? I’m not really a hamburger girl but with that sort of endorsement, I think I’ll have to try it.  I hope you will too.

Don’t forget to tune in to the virtual presentation about the Gulf Stream next Tuesday, if you haven’t registered, there is still time to do so and if you can’t find last week’s newsletter with the instructions, I’m sure Wendy will add them somewhere this week.

We have so many exciting things to look forward to – more info next week!
