Thank you! Thank you so much, all of you, for responding to the plea to make sure that the RHADC staff were shown how much we appreciate all they have done for us during difficult times last year. The response to the appeal for the staff Christmas fund meant that the staff received bonuses that were far in excess of what they have received in the past and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your generosity – from near and far. I know the staff are very grateful. I received emails from long-standing members who have been marooned (they probably don’t think of it as such) in Australia since before the pandemic confirming their wishes for donations to the staff Christmas fund even though they haven’t been in Bermuda to experience the wonderful service we receive from the RHADC staff and that is truly a wonderful testament to the feeling of community we have with our Club from far and near. Long may it continue and grow.
This Thursday is our quarterly scheduled Orientation evening for new members. Please do not be alarmed if you have not received an invitation. Having a long list of provisional members is a problem many clubs would love to have and we are not complaining! However, with the Covid restrictions we cannot have all the provisional members in one room, in fact, we can’t have more than 10 people in one room. So, the presentation will be on the Terrace and it looks like it will be a windy, chilly evening; certainly, the forecast does not look promising. We are scheduling another evening on 4th Feb., so if you were not invited this week, you will shortly be receiving an invitation for 4th Feb. and we look forward to meeting you then. If you did receive an invitation for Thursday and you aren’t able to attend, or if you are a hardy group and you’d rather take the weather gods’ punishment this week instead of coming on 4th Feb., please let Wendy know. Thank you!
It has come to my attention that one of our newest provisional members is a very regular attender at Sunday breakfast/lunch at the Club. He comes with a crowd (most of them his children) every week, so thank you Michael. We hope you decide to stay in Bermuda to become a permanent regular attender! We welcome your presence amongst us.
And finally…. It was really nice to see one of our members on the front page of the paper as being the one of first people in Bermuda to get the Coronavirius vaccination: good for you Dr Gibbons! You are looking pretty good! It will be so nice to see folks back at the Club once the vaccine becomes more widely available and we are all less hesitant about going out. As for me, I think I will have to go out much more often: Ted gave me not one, but two cookbooks for Christmas, so every meal now feels like an assessment!
